About the Maker: Mahnie Blakey

Mahnie Blakey is an artist and designer who uses the relationship between textiles and technology to explore how we navigate digital space. Working primarily with embroidery and programming, she develops processes that connect the ‘cloth’ and the screen through shared gestures and visual languages while emphasising their differences. Through the slow, tactile process of embroidery she explores how analogue craft practices can be used to gain a deeper understanding of contemporary technology and our relationship to it.  Mahnie graduated from the ANU School of Art and Design in 2019. Her body of work was awarded the ANU SOAD Emerging Artist Support Scheme John and Elizabeth Baker Design Award 2019. This award supported the public art project Phone x Stitch which was featured in the Design Canberra Festival 2022.
