ABOUT THE ROLE | Exhibition Coordinator

The Exhibition Coordinator is responsible for managing all aspects of the delivery of Craft + Design Canberra’s exhibition program. This program is curated through an annual application process, where member artists submit proposals to the Craft + Design Canberra Artistic Excellence Committee for review and selection. 

The Coordinator’s primary role is to support artists, craftspeople, and designers in presenting their own exhibitions at Craft + Design Canberra. This includes overseeing every stage of exhibition development and delivery, such as initial planning, contract administration, installation, production of catalogues and room sheets, and public engagement. 

 

SELECTION CRITERIA | Essential 

  1. The successful applicant will have: Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills with the ability to work as a productive contributor in a small team and establish positive working relationships with staff, board, Craft + Design Canberra members, artists, sponsors, internal and external stakeholders.
  2. Demonstrated experience managing all aspects of exhibitions including:
    • Planning and ability to set and to meet deadlines.
    • Logistical planning and delivery, including freight, artwork handling, condition reporting, installation and deinstallation, exhibition lighting etc.
    • Stakeholder engagement, including liaising with artists, contractors, sponsors, media Staff and contractor management.
    • Marketing and promotion, commissioning and editing exhibition essays, artists statements and biographies, exhibition catalogues, list of works, website listings etc
    • Budget management.
    • Risk management planning and WHS documentation.
  3. Proven art handling and exhibition installation skills, with experience installing both two dimensional and three-dimensional artworks.
  4. Organisational, project management and budgeting skills including the ability to be able to manage and prioritise a high-volume workload; including multitasking, self-direction, initiative, and flexibility.
  5. High level written communication skills with demonstrated experience preparing exhibition text, marketing copy, reports, presentations and budgets.
  6. High level digital literacy with the ability to use imaging software (Including MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva etc)
  7. High level staff management skills with the ability to supervise and train Installation staff and motivate and inspire colleagues.
  8. Experience working in a flexible arts-related environment and the ability to work evenings and weekends.
  9. Demonstrated capability to be flexible and adaptable to changing and challenging
    circumstances.
  10. Demonstrated openness to accept performance feedback and willingness to commit to continuous improvement.
