Meet the maker - Dan Lorrimer
At the heart of Dan Lorrimer’s practice is a keen sense of exploration through making and through that, a deep understanding of material. Recognised for his technical skill and ingenuity, since graduating from the ANU School of Art Sculpture workshop in 2009, Lorrimer has worked with many prominent leaders in the Canberra craft and design community including Richard Whiteley, Matthew Curtis and F!NK & Co. Who, in turn, have influenced him to develop a highly productive studio specialising in metal forming.
The works in his current exhibition at Craft ACT: Craft + Design Centre, Surface Vector, are a perfect example of the hard work and dedication that Dan applies to his craft. Surface Vector presents works which explore two lines of sculptural inquiry, Fragment and Splinter Array. Within these works he explores notions of motion, force, illusion, growth and decay through abstract minimalist sculptures and wall works.
With a practice spanning both art, fabrication and product design, Lorrimer’s accolades include solo and group exhibitions throughout Australia, public and private acquisitions including University of Western Sydney Art Collection and high-profile commissions including the design and creation of shop fittings at the National Museum of Australia. Dan is recognised by Craft ACT as an Accredited Professional member in acknowledgement of the strength and depth of his practice.
Surface Vector now on display at Craft ACT and online until 17 October 2020.
