Al Munro

Mixed Media + Design + Textiles

Maker Member

Al Munro is an Australian artist working on the unceded Country of the Ngunnwal and Ngambri traditional custodians. Her art practice focusses on painting, drawing and textile practices, and her research draw on diverse fields including artistic abstraction, geometry and textile patterning to explore the relationships between visual art, design and mathematics. Al has exhibited widely throughout Australia and internationally, and her work is held in public and private collections.

"My practice investigates the interaction of colour, pattern and space in painting and other media. I draw on the history, practices and structures of textile patterning to examine the relationship between textiles and Modernist abstraction. The works often include fold-like corrugations in the painting’s physical structure as well as elements of collaged pattern to disturb and activate the flat surface."
