Elena is a ceramic artist whose evocative work translates the whimsical spirit of childhood memories and the complexities of human nature into tangible form. Her creative foundation was built locally; she earned her degree in Fine Arts and Crafts from the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) and refined her vision while graduating from the prestigious ANU School of Art and Design (ANU School of Art & Design) in 2001.
Her pieces have graced several Canberra arts spaces, including the serene Strathnairn Arts Centre (Strathnairn Arts), the vibrant Belconnen Arts Centre (Belco Arts), and the community-focused Tuggeranong Arts Centre (Tuggeranong Arts Centre). Elena has also shown work at the Humble House Gallery and the dynamic ACT Multicultural Centre (Multicultural Hub Canberra). Beyond the gallery walls, her participation in community projects and intergenerational workshops has deeply influenced her current artistic voice, demonstrating a style shaped by connection, playfulness, and shared human experience.
"I am a ceramic artist working with clay to translate childhood memories and the complexities of human nature into tangible, playful forms. My practice is grounded in hand-building techniques that allow intuition, imperfection, and spontaneity to guide the work. Clay appeals to me for its immediacy and vulnerability; it records touch, time, and emotion, much like memory itself.
My artistic foundation was shaped through formal training in Fine Arts and Crafts and further refined through my studies in art and design, but my strongest influences come from lived experience—storytelling, community, and intergenerational exchange. Participation in community projects and workshops has deeply informed my approach, reinforcing ideas of connection, empathy, and shared experience. Through whimsical yet thoughtful forms, I aim to create work that feels familiar and inviting, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own inner worlds and human connections."
