Maria studied painting at Sydney College of the Arts and has exhibited widely, including two solo shows at James Harvey Gallery in Sydney and a two-person exhibition in Canberra. Her work has been hung twice in the Portia Geach Memorial Award, and she has received multiple drawing prizes from the Royal Art Society in Lavender Bay. She enjoys combining drawing and painting with found objects to create levels of iconographic meaning.

"My art practice centres around painting and drawing which I often alter and enrich with found materials. I am comfortable in multiple media and also include fibre elements in my work at times. My work is representational with elements of both surrealism and painting from life. Drawing is a major component of my practice and I have won several prizes for my work."
