Mieke den Otter

Mixed Media + Textiles + Design

Maker Member

Mieke den Otter has been a practicing artist since a young person not able to do sport. It makes sense of her world of actualities, making textiles and text, creating drawings and installations that have meaning to her. She loves to connect with community through sharing of her artmaking, artist in residence, field trips and practicing daily hand spinning of threads.

"Modernist design has influenced my early years as an illustrator. I found a wonderful group of textile artists locally and these skills of spin, weave, dye + design have added to my eclectic making practice. Sharing my skills with children have been a focus as I am also a grandmother who cares about passing on the joy of making in a contemporary world. I am interested in community collaborations and support other artists to elevate craft to art."
