His original training was as an architect and he practised actively in that profession until 2008. The last major period of his practice was as a principal of BVN Architects, a practice employing over 200 people in Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. His final project won the 2006 Sulman Medal for excellence in public and commercial buildings.
He moved away from architectural practice during 2007 to study painting at the ANU School of Art +Design. In 2011, he completed a Graduate Diploma in Visual Arts and a PhD in 2019.
Since May of 2017, he have been a studio artist in the M16 Artspace. In addition to his exhibitions at the ANU School of Art and Design, he has exhibited at M16 Artspace, Gallery of small things, Australian National Capital Artists Gallery and Canberra Contemporary. His work is concerned with the built environment.
