Rosalie Rose is a textile artist currently living in Canberra, creating on Ngunnawal and Ngambri land. Her creative life prioritises the processes of slow stitching and botanical dyeing, creating large handstitched artworks, talismans, baskets and garments. Rosalie holds stitching and dyeing workshops for children and adults and has both past and forthcoming solo exhibitions of her slow stitched pieces.Â
"Creative inspiration arises from nature, from Mother Earth. Natural fibres and fabrics, shells, stones, and plant pigments resonate with me on a creative level, serving as both material and muse.Â
My practice is a devotion to the origins of the materials I use, expressed through botanical dyeing and the meditative repetition of hand stitching. Like grains of rice, the rhythmic marks of each stitch invites patience and presence within me.
Currently, I am exploring the concepts of joy and healing as a point of reconnection to the child architype. Combining motifs inspired by nature and drawings from childhood is a reminder to consciously recognise gentleness, play, joy and wonder in myself, nature and community.
Through the work I create, I seek to establish a connection between material, maker, and viewer where the relationship between the contemporary inner experience and something ancient is honoured."
