Silvia Velez trained at the ANU across the Photomedia and Printmaking workshops, graduating with first class honours in 1997. Silvia has exhibited nationally and internationally, including being part of the Adelaide Biennale, group shows at Monash University Museum of Art, the Centre for Contemporary Photography, the Australian Centre for Photography, the Queensland Centre for Photography and the Canberra Contemporary Art Space. In the last years her practice has consisted of small-scale mono print commissions and experimental installations making patterns on fabrics and with lights.
"My practice has always been about looking, what it means to see and have a voice or conversely to be invisible and silenced. I am concerned with politics, our environmental future and how we inhabit and travel our personal spaces. My work used to be loud and clear - as years have passed it has become quiet and fragile. These days I observe more and talk less. I am still drawn to finding beauty, somewhere."
