Textiles + Mixed Media

Maker Member

Suzanne Knight is a contemporary artist based in north Canberra. She completed undergraduate and research degrees at the ANU School of Art in the 1990s, initially working as a printmaker before developing tapestry weaving as her main practice. Her work encompasses textiles, lithography, Japanese woodblock printing, drawing and painting, with exhibitions held nationally and internationally, including an Australia Council Asialink residency in Japan.

Her practice reflects a deep concern with environmental change, exploring the interface between domestic life and the natural world. Her most recent work creates life-sized tapestries in the shape of plastic bottles using repurposed wool, highlighting issues of waste, sustainability, and settler impact on native species. Her still life compositions—often referencing food, vessels, plants, birds and insects—often merge textile processes with other materials. Recently retired from a full time waged job, she now has the opportunity to continue to develop more community-engaged and environmentally focused works through exhibitions, residencies, and regional research.
