HOW DOES THIS CHALLENGE SUPPORT CREATIVES?
Now in its 4th year, the theme for this year's challenge is Rewilding, and participants are invited to engage in daily creative practice. Each morning, participants receive a word prompt via email, encouraging them to respond in any way they choose. We encourage participants working in any medium, such as clay, fabric, ink, digital tools, paint or writing, to reflect on how Rewilding influences both their art and life.
Throughout the month, the resulting creative responses are shared on Instagram, celebrating diverse expressions.
20 participants will be shortlisted and have their work featured in an online exhibition hosted by Craft + Design Canberra, with the winners participating in a physical exhibition at the Craft + Design Canberra gallery.
This year we have waived the entry fee to encourage participation and share the benefits of being creative with a larger community. Everyone is welcome to have a go!
It is free to sign up and free to participate in the challenge. However, to be eligible to win one of the prizes participants must be financial Members of Craft + Design Canberra before the judging commences on 7 August 2025. We have many tiers of Membership with great benefits.
HEAR FROM OUR PREVIOUS WINNER
Deirdre Pearce, 2024 Winner tells us how the Daily Challenge improved her practice.
Building a Daily Habit
The daily challenge helped me to make time and space for creative practice. It showed me that I don’t need a full day free to make meaningful work—short, intensive bursts can be just as productive.
Expanding Creative Possibilities
I refined my informal, private assemblage methods into more polished works for exhibition. This challenge reignited my enthusiasm for working with assemblage and found materials, particularly as they relate to a specific place.
Enhancing Wellbeing
July can be a difficult month, but knowing a new prompt would arrive each morning made it easier to get up and start the day creatively. Collecting found materials on daily walks also helped my mood and wellbeing.
Connecting with Other Artists
I enjoyed exchanging ideas and comments with other participants over Instagram—some were new connections, and others I hadn’t spoken to since the pandemic.
Unlocking New Opportunities
The approach I developed during the challenge has shaped my new body of work exploring shelter, home, and belonging. I’m also taking these ideas into an artist residency at Cove Park, Scotland, where I’ll continue to explore found materials, walking, and documentation as creative tools.
