Craft + Design Canberra is looking for a Treasurer to join our Board of Management.

Since 1971 we have supported artists, makers and designers at every stage of their careers, through professional development, access to new audiences, and advocacy for stronger support from the ACT and Australian governments. We run a gallery with a year-round exhibition program, a shop selling the best of locally made handcrafted objects, and the biennial Craft + Design Canberra Festival, which in 2024 engaged 141,772 people and generated $16 million in economic impact for the Territory.

Creativity feeds innovation, improves wellbeing, and leaves a lasting mark on the world. In Canberra, Craft + Design Canberra exists to make sure our creative community thrives. We support artists, makers and designers at every stage of their careers: through professional development, access to new audiences, and advocacy for stronger support from the ACT and Australian governments.

The Treasurer makes this possible. Sound finances are what let us sustain big ambitions: year-round programs and exhibitions, international recognition as a global city of design, and campaigns that shape how our city sees itself and evolves.

The Treasurer holds specific responsibility for the financial health of the organisation, working closely with the Chair, the CEO and Artistic Director, and our accounting firm. The role suits someone who enjoys applying financial expertise in a creative setting, and who finds satisfaction in translating numbers into decisions that a board of artists, designers and community members can act on with confidence.

You will join a collegial and engaged board at a busy and expansive time for the organisation, with the 2026 Craft + Design Canberra Festival running from 5 to 15 November and a new strategic plan guiding our growth.

This is an opportunity for you to gain and expand your board experience with an established and stable flagship institution of the Canberra creative scene, now in its fifty-fifth year. Day-to-day financial operations are already delivered through a combination of staff and an external accounting firm. The Treasurer’s strategic insight to help set direction with the Board and manage risk.

Applications close 5.00pm, Thursday 10 September 2026.
