Studio Stories: Hiroshi Yamaguchi

Discover the work of designers and makers from Canberra, Australia’s design capital in these fascinating virtual studio tours and interviews with Craft ACT members.

About Hiroshi:

Hiroshi Yamaguchi’s training as a woodworker started in 1994 at a private woodworking school in Japan called Shinrin-Takumi Juku, under Master Craftsman Osamu Shoji. For ten years he taught at the Gifu Academy of Forestry, Science and Culture. This gave him a strong professional experience of teaching. Hiroshi moved to Canberra in 2012 and established his studio, Koitoya Design/Make/Teach, in 2016. One of the themes running through Hiroshi’s work is connection – connecting people’s needs to design, connecting responsible use of forest materials to design and making, and connecting people to enjoy wooden craft making through teaching.
