Crete Earrings
Regular price $160.00 Save $-160.00Hand polished to a brush finish, the Crete earrings, are made with locally sourced, reclaimed stainless steel.
Materials: Welded stainless steel (hypoallergenic, light, and non-tarnish)
Dimensions: H 55 mm x W 30 mm
About the Makers: Founded in 2011, Days of August's signature look comes from it's unconventional use of industrial grade stainless steel - a metal not typically used to make jewellery - which meant reinventing and adapting traditional fabrication techniques to accommodate its solidity and strength.
Stainless steel perfectly complements the maker, Marie-Pier, design style - minimal and intentionally simple - and with it she creates architectural and contemporary statement pieces. Believing in timelessness over trends, he combines clean lines and considered composition to create wearable jewellery essentials that transcend the seasons.
With a focus on sustainability, Marie-Pier put in place eco-friendly practices from the start, and is now partnering with Ecologi to offset her environmental footprint, making Days of August a 100% carbon neutral business.

Meet the Maker: Sarah Murphy maintains her practice in Canberra at M16 Artspace where she creates her work to exhibit nationally.
She says of her work ‘Rhythm, repetition and movement are the fundamentals which are often the driving forces behind my work. I use repetition as a rhythm and a play between worlds of colour, movement and shape. In life we experience repetition every day. The simple act of walking, breathing or the sound of our own heartbeat. The gesture or movement of the human body, creating its own random yet syncopated pattern. The use of repetition in my work creates structure. The presence of structure in our lives gives us the sense that we are somehow in control of our own existence. I enjoy creating jewellery with these characteristics and exploring how this might affect the relationship between the wearer the viewer and the piece itself.’

Meet the Maker: Froni Binns creates coloured porcelain jewellery and other wares from her home studio in Kyneton, Central Victoria. Having originally studied visual arts at the ANU School of Art and Design in the 1990s in the Graphic Investigation and Glass workshops, Froni returned to making in recent years as a therapy whilst caring full-time for her elderly parents. What began as explorations in colour eventually grew to working with porcelain and production jewellery within the tradition known as 'Nerikomi'.
Nerikomi allows Froni to explore pattern in porcelain with its properties of holding colour brilliantly. Since her return to making Froni has fallen in love with ceramics as a medium. Generally working without glazes, Froni sands and polishes the porcelain to show the simple beauty of the clay body. From being a therapeutic process, making has grown into her little business of making jewellery and small objects. For Froni, taking the handmade out of the gallery space as jewellery brings the objects alive.

Special Edition General Assembly Brooch - RE06
Regular price $550.00 Save $-550.00Studio Hacienda (2005–2008) was established in a factory space in Abbotsford by Blanche Tilden and Phoebe Porter following an Australia Council funded mentorship of Phoebe by Blanche in 2005.
The General Assembly brooches were developed as a series of designed and engineered component parts that, when assembled, are redolent of the built structures of Melbourne and Canberra.
Drawing inspiration from the philosophy of serial production demonstrated in the work of craftspeople such as Melbourne contemporary jeweller, Susan Cohn, and German master goldsmith, Friedrich Dau, Studio Hacienda have produced interchangeable components of varying colour, texture, form and material that are laid out in a "production line" ready pick'n'mix. Architectural details and signage found around Melbourne's CBD were starting points from which each design evolved.
"General Assembly exemplifies Porter and Tilden's common ground: working in multiples, exploring the individual impulse to select, combine and adorn, alertness to the ubiquitous street styles that pulse through a city. It is a project that involves people in a lively, intelligent conversation through the object. That's Studio Hacienda." - Merryn Gates
General Assembly—Canberra brooch series 2007–2008, remade 2021

About the Maker: Lucy is a ceramicist who works from her home studio in Canberra. Her practice focuses on ceramic jewellery and homewares.
Lucy’s contemporary jewellery collections include earrings, necklaces and accessories. She uses a constrained palette of rich, earthy colours on a variety of clay bases and creates simple, organic shapes and textures. Each element is unique to the next and offers the wearer that subtle statement piece.
Her functional ware includes vases, planters and mugs in neutral tones. These are predominantly hand built, giving them a unique and tactile quality. Her pieces often incorporate texture and mark making and embrace the imperfect.

About the Maker: Lisa Cahill's glass installations create a discourse about the Australian landscape and her affinity with it, often entwined with her Danish heritage. Inspired by both the natural world and the transitory nature of the urban experience, Cahill’s dreamlike images invite viewers to draw associations with their own remembered landscapes, resulting in a meditative and emotional response. Rather than a direct reproduction they are more her own interpretation of light and landscape and become a place for quiet contemplation
