Johneen Hibbert

This was my first experience of participating in an artistic journaling challenge and it captivated me from day one. I so looked forward to checking my email at 6:00am to discover the prompt word of the day.

The primary materials I used were watercolour and fine black Artline pen, but I also greatly enjoyed incorporating collage and some found objects, such as feathers, pine needles, dried chillies and petals into my work. Looking back I am most pleased with where the prompts 1927, alchemy, brutalism and magenta took me.

My professional life was spent working in non-government community development organisations and the University sector where I also played an active role in my respective trade unions. My creative pursuits, in art and writing, have been influenced by the environments I have experienced - of living near the ocean, in the inner city of Sydney and now the Blue Mountains of NSW - and my political beliefs and practice. I shy away from calling myself an artist but enjoy the practice of image-making.
