Kingston Arts Precinct Announcement
The Craft ACT: Craft + Design Centre board is pleased to announce that Craft ACT has signed on to be one of the key arts organisations at the Kingston Arts Precinct. The Craft ACT board and management took the decision very seriously and decided, on balance, that a custom designed and ground floor premises in a new arts precinct would be advantageous for the future of Craft ACT and our growing membership. We will now participate in the design development process and will keep members informed of developments.
The ACT government today announced that it will spend up to $78 million on development works for the Kingston Arts Precinct, after signing an agreement with Geocon to deliver the project. This includes $50 million for purpose-built art facilities for resident art organisations and accommodation for visiting artists.
Following the successful tender, the Suburban Land Agency will manage the next stage of consultations with the tenderer. A formal community engagement process will run in parallel with ongoing consultation between Geocon, Arts ACT and local art organisations who will move into the precinct once completed. Geocon has engaged Architects Fender Katsalidis and Oculus for the project. Fender Katsalidis is well known for creating vibrant and inspirational spaces, including the New Acton Precinct and the Mona Museum.
