About the Maker: Elián Tazzyman is an Australian glass artist, curator and archivist based in Canberra. With a body of art work that ranges from small intimate glass pieces to large scale mixed media sculpture. His work can be seen in museum collections in Australia and internationally. For his efforts Elián has been the recipient of a number of awards including the Hobart Art Price, a Creative Glass Centre of America residency and a Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Fellowship. The later enabled study in carving and engraving at some of the most prestigious schools and studios in the USA, Europe, in particular the Czech Republic. Elián has taught glass in some capacity since 1999 finding the reciprocity of this experience very important to his personal development. He is the co-editor of a book on the life and work of glass artist Stephen Procter. He considers this book his best work. Elián was born Itzell and transitioned just before his 49th birthday. As they say, better late than never.
