About the Maker: Wiscombe spent her early childhood years in Tasmania. Wiscombe grew up amongst a rugged landscape, where the rhythms of life are omnipresent. The ebb and flow of warmth and coolness, light and darkness, maintain equilibrium in all living things.

Wiscombe’s aim is to evoke atmosphere, mysticism and elusiveness while referencing the natural phenomena of space and light. Due to the duplicitous qualities of glass, it is Wiscombe’s material of choice. Like the land and sea scapes of this distant south island, glass can be beautiful yet treacherous and has qualities of strength and yet fragile to human intervention.

Through her art practice Wiscombe aims to bring attention to man made philosophical juxtapositions that are impacting the natural world. Glass is the perfect material to give visual voice to issues and concerns that are often duplicitous in nature. Or seen as “wicked problems”.

Post completing her visual arts degree Wiscombe has exhibited in a number of exhibitions that also includes two Emerging Artist Award Scheme exhibitions, Craft ACT Members exhibition, Belconnen Arts, Queanbeyan Art Society and as a Finalist in the Inaugural Art Prize at Lanyon. Most recently her work has been accepted as a Finalist in the Bowral District Art Society Sculpture Prize 2024 and has been sold.

Wiscombe’s artwork is held by a number of private collectors of her work.

Wiscombe’s professional activities include having developed a number of one day kiln forming courses, and she has received all five-star ratings. Refer https://classbento.com.au/teacher/home?msg_r=all#listings.

Susan has served as both a Director and President on the Board of Ausglass (A NFP whose membership includes of glass artists, curators, and collectors). Refer https://ausglass.org/directorsindex.
