Avi Amesbury
Avi Amesbury works with clay dug from a variety of locations and volcanic rock ash to create fine handmade porcelain. In her studio she focuses on exploring the possibilities of clay – shaping and forming, glazing and firing. It is from the earth and physically connects her to the environment. Experimentation with found materials and the translucency of porcelain allows her to explore ideas of land, history, place, connection and light.
Amesbury received a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Ceramics), with Honours from the Australian National University, School of Art in 2002. She was awarded a scholarship in 2000 through the ANU International Exchange Program and undertook studies at Hong-Ik University in Seoul, Republic of Korea. Her work has been selected for national and international exhibitions, and acquired for public and private collections. In 2017 she was Artist-in-Residence at the Benyamini Contemporary Ceramic Centre in Tel-Aviv, Israel.
