Isabelle Mackay-Sim graduated with Honours from the ANU School of Art + Design in 2018. Her ceramics and mixed-media practice includes both sculptural and functional work. She frequently uses imagery from science and the natural world to speak to an element of the human experience.
In past bodies of work she has used botanical forms to comment on the breadth of human sexuality, and has celebrated the inherently flawed nature of human anatomy through the imagery of electron microscopes. Scientific learning is important to her practice as it influences her perspective of the world and sparks new ways of perceiving and depicting what she observes.
