About the Maker: Mark Eliott is an Australian artist born in New Zealand whose glass artwork ranges from sculptural abstraction and biological representation through mythology and storytelling. He often collaborates with other artists and incorporates other media into his work such as text, sound, wood, graphics, animation, performance and scent. He completed the Associate Diploma in Jazz Studies (Saxophone) at Sydney Conservatorium then a Master of Studio Arts and Master of Visual Arts at Sydney College of the Arts. Mark’s work is in many private and public collections including The Corning Glass Museum, New York. The Glass Museet in Denmark, The National Glass collection in Wagga Wagga, the National gallery in Canberra and the Gallery of Western Australia, where he won the 2019 Tom Malone Glass prize. Mark’s current work is the book and exhibition titled: Essence of Cloud, made with the assistance of many generous assistants and collaborators. The body of work was first exhibited as a whole at Craft Act in 2021 without the first piece which was exhibited there as part of a group show in 2016 and sold to the Corning Museum. In addition to making exhibition work and commissions, Mark presents at conferences, assists other artists with glass elements for their projects, provides interactive glassblowing demonstrations and teaches students in his Marrickville studio. He has a strong interest in environmental issues and is researching ways to improve the sustainability of his arts practice.
