Craft + Design Canberra is recognised as a leading centre in contemporary Australian craft and design, with a vision to embed contemporary craft, making and design at the centre of everyday life in Australia’s Capital, a global city of design.
The Retail Officer is responsible for retail operations at Craft + Design Canberra. Retail work includes stock processing, inventory, and sales of artists work, the delivery of outstanding customer service to patrons of the shop and gallery and assisting with ordering and communications to stockists. The Retail officer will build retail operations supporting Craft + Design Canberra’s strategic goals including access, attendance, inclusion and income generation.
Selection Criteria — Essential
The successful applicant will have:
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills with the ability to work as a productive
contributor in a small team and establish positive working relationships with staff, board, Craft + Design Canberra members, artists, sponsors, internal and external stakeholders. - Staff management skills with the ability to supervise and train staff and motivate and inspire colleagues.
- Demonstrated experience in all aspects of retail operations (preferably in in the arts sector) including stocktakes; stockist management; reporting; and retail operation administration.
- Organisational and administrative skills including the ability to be able to manage and prioritise a high-volume workload (including multitasking, self-direction, initiative, and flexibility).
- Excellent customer service, oral communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
- Written communication skills with experience preparing and editing emails, reports,
contracts, and marketing text. - Digital literacy skills with the ability to use Microsoft Office, the Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Shopify and social media to produce high quality administrative documents and digital assets.
- Capacity for after-hours and weekend work, particularly for exhibition openings and events, as well as occasional Saturday shifts in the Craft + Design Canberra Gallery/shop and intensively during the Craft + Design Canberra Festival.
- A commitment to continuous improvement, using performance evaluations and reviews to understand effectiveness and areas for growth and review.
